Gerald Browne. Secretary of Finance of South Africa, on a nine-day informal visit to Israel as the guest of the United Israel Appeal, met yesterday with Finance Minister Yehoshua Rabinowitz, Commerce and Industry Minister Haim Barlev, Leon Dulzin, acting chairman of the Executives of the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency, and with Ezra Shapiro, world chairman of the UIA.
Browne and his wife are being accompanied by Julius Weinstein, chairman of the South African Zionist Federation, and Mrs. Weinstein. Describing Browne as “a genuine friend of the Jewish community of South Africa” who has “expressed a keen interest in Israel and its development.” Weinstein said South African Jews were “extremely happy” that Browne had come to Israel to learn at first hand about its current situation. The purpose of Browne’s visit is to meet with key leaders, primarily as courtesy calls.
