South African President Thabo Mbeki last week invited Israeli President Ezer Weizman to pay an official visit to this country. Last week’s invitation came in the wake of former South African President Nelson Mandela’s visit to Israel and the Middle East. “My government has recently been greatly encouraged by the positive developments in the cause of peace displayed by the Government of the State of Israel and by the concrete step taken by Prime Minister Barak in pursuit of that goal,” Mbeki stated on extending the invitation.
