Samuel S. Fishzohn, formerly director of the educational Alliance, largest community center in the United States, has been appointed director of the newly established Youth Department of the American Jewish Committee, it was announced today by Dr. John Slawson, executive vice-president of the committee.
Mr. Fishzohn will develop an extensive program which will aim at shaping the character of children and young people of all religious and ethnic groups and achieving their immunization against doctrines of hatred and intolerance. To accomplish this purpose, the media used will be radio, press, motion pictures and other popular means of communication. Different activities will be arranged to meet the requirements of each age group.
“All our efforts to stamp out prejudice and combat anti-Semitism will be of little value if the coming generation is not able to carry on where we left off,” Dr. Slawson said. “The importance of preparing youth for the business of genuine democratic living within a community free from anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance cannot be overestimated.”
