David Hacohen, Israel’s former Ambassador to Burma, and a member of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, has been given high honors in the city of Gomel, in the Soviet Union, according to a dispatch from Moscow received here today.
Mr. Hacohen visited Leningrad last week-end with other leading members of the Interparliamentary Union which had just concluded its annual congress at Warsaw. He is a member of the Union’s presidium. While in Leningrad, he received an invitation to visit Gomel, the Russian city where he was born 60 years ago.
At Gomel, the Mayor of the City gave an official reception for the Israeli diplomat, and the City Council held a special session to greet the visitor. Of further significance, it was seen here, is the fact that Mr. Hacohen’s father had been one of the wealthiest citizens of pre-Soviet Gomel, and left Russia after the Bolshevik revolution.
