A spokesman for the Soviet Embassy here said today the Embassy was unaware of any invitation to Jewish groups to meet with USSR Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev when the latter visits the United States next month.

The spokesman said the Embassy received “several” letters from various Jewish organizations, desiring a meeting with Mr. Khrushchev. A possibility was acknowledged that such a meeting may be scheduled. But so far, said the spokesman, no arrangements have been made by Soviet authorities to put a meeting with Jewish leaders on Mr. Khrushchev’s agenda.

Meanwhile it was learned here today that, with the approval of the State Department, Philip M. Klutznick has formally requested the Soviet Embassy in Washington to arrange a meeting for American Jewish leaders with Mr. Khrushchev. Mr. Klutznick made the request on behalf of 18 major Jewish organizations which met under his chairmanship in New York last week to discuss the possibility of taking up with Mr. Khrushchev the present position of Jews in the Soviet Union.
