Soviet Government Publishes Colonization Figures on 3rd Anniversary

August 30th marked the completion of three years work of the Government Commission for Jewish hand Settlement (Comzet) according to a report issued by the government department in connection with this anniversary. The report stated that in 1924-25, the first year of its activity, the Comzet carried on work in seven areas. Cherson. Krivoyrog, Odesia, Crimea, Homel. White Russia and Volhynia, In the second year, it added Zaparaojie. Mariupol and Northern Caucasia and in the third year in added. Daghistar. Briansk, and Smolensk, making a total of thirteen areas.

In 1924-25 the first year of its activity, in settled on the land 5.225 Jewish famities. in 1925-26. 5,000 families and in 1936-27. 5.503 families.

The Comzet has concluded agreements with four organizations, the Agrojcint. the Ort, the Ica and the Ozet.

During the three years, it allocated for Jewish settlement in the first year 96,339 desiatin of land, in the second year 91-336 desatin, a total of 293.917 desiatin, about 800.000 acres.

In funds, the Comzet has raised in the three years 2,401,000 roubles from State funds, 700,000 roubles form the Ica, 311,000 roubles form the Ort, and $993,000 in bank credits and other credits from Soveter sources, making a total of 13,656,000 roubles.

This does not include the monies invested in the colonization work by the settlers themselves nor the value of the building marerials given to the settlers by the Government, as well as the reduced fares and other facilities.
