Jewish sources in the Soviet Union reported that many letters have been sent to the American and Belgian peoples by Soviet Jews following the murder of three diplomats by the Black September group in Khartoum, in a telegram to President Nixon, 14 Soviet Jews from Moscow, Kiev and Kharkov expressed their grief at the deaths of Ambassador Cleo A. Noel Jr. and George Curtis Moore, charge d’affaires.
The telegram stated: “Dear Mr. President, Deeply moved by the cowardly murder of the representatives of your people in Khartoum by Black-September terrorists. We extend our deep sympathy to you, to all the American people and to the families of the murdered men. We mourn together with you over this senseless tragedy.”
A similar telegram was sent to King Baudoing of Belgium about the death of Guy Eid, the Belgian charge d’affaires. A telegram about the Khartoum affair was also sent by the Goldstein brothers and Elizabeta Bykova from Tbilisi to the American Ambassador in Moscow, with a request to pass it on to Nixon.
