Mr. Grinberg, representative of the Jewish World Relief Conference, has received a letter from M, Lander, representative of the Soviet government, for affairs relating to the Foreign Relief organizations, in which he writes:
“There should be no doubt whatever about the question that Russia is in need of assistance. I must emphasize that notwithstanding the fact that the Government is now liquidating the Committee for combatting the effects of the famine, the country has by no means yet recovered from the famine and economic depreciation. The Government is taking heroic measures to heal the wounds of the country, but the want is so great, that the means at the State’s disposal can in no way suffice, and we welcome therefore the foreign organizations who are coming to our aid.”
M. Lander stresses in particular the need of restoring the possibilities of agricultural work in Russia, of securing homes for the vast number of waifs and strays, and of providing medical aid for the population.
