A demand to strengthen the anti-religious campaign among Jews in connection with the approaching Passover holiday is voiced today in the Yiddish Communist papers, “Der Stern” of Charkov and the Moscow “Emes.”
The “Stern” urges that anti-Passover meetings be arranged “in order to explain how comical the Passover ritual is.” The paper complains that Jewish artisans are under the influence of the religious propaganda conducted by rabbis and are even contributing toward a fund to supply the poor Jews with matzoth. They are also organizing cooperative matzoth bakeries to provide matzoth for themselves and others.
The “Emes” states that in connection with the approaching Passover, religious sentiment have been strengthened among the Jews in the Ukraine and White Russia. In the city Orsha, a number of Jewish stores are now beginning to keep closed on Saturdays. The number of Chedarim (religious schools) has greatly increased lately in White Russia, the paper complains.
