The Spanish government today issued a decree for the organization of an official celebration on the anniversary of the birth of Rabbi Moses Maimonides (the Rambam), whose eight hundredth anniversary will be celebrated next April. The government decree provided for official honors at the celebration.
Rabbi Maimonides, Talmudist, author, philosopher, astronomer and physician, was born in Cordova March 30, 1135, and died in Cairo, Egypt, December 13, 1204.

Simultaneous celebrations will be held next April in Cairo, where the Rambam lived most of his life, Vienna, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Jerusalem, London, Warsaw, Philadelphia and New York.
