The role of the Spanish bishops at the Ecumenical Council in seeking the adoption of a statement disassociating the Jews from any guilt in connection with the death of Jesus was lauded here today by Morris B. Abram, president of the American Jewish Committee during a meeting with Manuel Fraga Iribarne, the Spanish Minister of Information and Tourism.
Mr. Abram particularly praised a statement at the Council by Cardinal Jose Maria Bueno y Montreal, Archbishop of Seville, who said last month in a reference to the declaration on the Jews that “it would be deplorable if this declaration were not made by the Council.” Mr. Fraga stressed the contribution of Judaism to Spain’s heritage.
