Spanish Jew Expelled from Turkey; Charged with Encouraging Emigration to Israel

Abraham Mayer, a Spanish citizen, has teen ordered to leave Turkey within a week because he is charged with conducting Zionist activities and encouraging emigration of Turkish Jews to Israel, it was reported here today.

Mayer has been residing in Turkey for the last two years. Recently he left for a brief visit to Israel. Upon his return he was detained by the Turkish authorities at the Istanbul airfield and served with the expulsion order. He was later released on condition that he leave the country within a week.
