Official circles in Pamplona, Spain, have repudiated a manifesto issued by the spanish traditionalist phalanx calling for revival of the Spanish in question and a new expulsion of Jews from Spain, the catholic newspaper universe reported here today.
The Spanish (Insurgent) Press Service was quoted as stating that the manifesto was in direct contradiction to the principle of religious tolerance which, it said, had been repeatedly voiced by generalissimo Francisco Franco, and that it was the work of a few irresponsible extremists not having the right to speak in the name of the state or of the church.
“There is no Jewish question in Spain, nor is there likely to be,” the press service was quoted as declaring.
