The Turkish Minister of Education has circulated a memorandum to all schools in Turkey maintained by foreign societies to the affect that they must devote more time to religious studies instead of devoting their entire time to modern secular education as at present. No tolerance will be shown, the circular wanns. All schools ignoring the order will be immediately closed. Directors of education throughout the country have been warned that punishment will follow any compromise in this matter.
