A number of terrorist incidents in Jerusalem and the occupied territories took place in the past few days, as the Fatah terrorist organization prepared to mark its 25th anniversary yesterday.

An explosive charge detonated yesterday a few hundred meters from the main gate of the Central Command headquarters, north of Jerusalem. There were no casualties or property damage from the explosion, which occurred in an open field.

Police in Jerusalem on Tuesday safely detonated what they described as a medium-sized bomb planted at the entrance to the central bus station. It was exploded by remote control and caused slight damage to a nearby bus stop. No one was hurt because police had cleared the area. The bomb, concealed in a nylon bag, aroused the suspicions of police Sgt. Yehuda Bachar, who promptly summoned the bomb squad.

PREVENTIVE ARRESTS OF PUBLIC FIGURES

Tuesday night, security forces conducted several preventive arrests of public figures in the territories on suspicion that they might incite the population. Leaflets in solidarity with the Palestine Liberation Organization, condemning any cooperation with Israel, were distributed at several locations in Judaea and Samaria.

In addition, the security forces also placed under administrative detention five persons, residents of Samaria, suspected of having collaborated with terrorist organizations.

Security forces also wounded a young resident of the village of Deir Astiya in the Noblus region, after he failed to obey orders to halt. This was the second such incident this week. On Monday, two Hebron residents were slightly wounded when the army shot at their legs after they allegedly ignored an order to halt.

CURFEW IMPOSED IN HEBRON

In Hebron, a curfew imposed on the central square after an Israeli was shot there Monday, remained in effect today. In Noblus, the A-Najah University has been closed for the duration of the week by its Board of Governors, who explained that the action was due to student elections. It was believed, however, that the Board wanted to prevent clashes between students and security forces on the anniversary of Fatah’s founding.

Meanwhile, terrorists failed Tuesday to carry out several attempted attacks in the Gaza area. A hand grenade was thrown into the headquarters of the civil administration, but did not explode. It was detonated safely by an Israel Defense Force sapper. There was also an unexplained burst of automatic gunfire near the civil administration headquarters.
