A split in the Shekel system in America, through which delegates are elected to the Zionist Congress, was seen here yesterday from appeals published in the New York Jewish press, urging the Jews of America to buy specific Mizrachi and Judenstaat party Shekolim.
In a statement issued yesterday by Leo Wolfson, chairman of the Central Shekel and Election Board of America, it is pointed out that these appeals “are bound to create a false impression as to the character of the Shekel.”
“The Shekel is an impartial instrument of the World Zionist Organization, giving its possessor the right to vote for any list of delegates to the World Zionist Congress regardless as to the source from which the Shekel has been obtained. It is, therefore, wrong to designate any Shekel with the name of a specific party or group, in Zionism. The Shekel stands above all party groups,” Mr. Wolfson explains.
