Expectations that the trial in the murder of Jacob Zwanger, one-time Soviet Vice-Commissar of Harbors, would develop an exposure of an international spy ring appeared doomed to disappointment today.
Abdul Khader, an Arab who confessed slaying Zwanger, and Reuben Schenzvit, charged with complicity, will be tried for murder, and not for any connection with an espionage organization, it was announced following a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Bourke here.
The fact that British secret service men attended the hearing coupled with widely current rumors that the murder involved an arms smuggling plot and a fantastic international intrigue had led many to expect amazing revelations from the trial.
