Acknowledging an offer by the Jewish autonomous region of Biro-Bidjan to erect two orphanages at a cost of 1,662,000 rubles to house 2,500 Jewish war orphans, Marshal Stalin today telegraphed to Biro-Bidjan extending his “fraternal greetings and thanks of the Government of the USSR.” Stalin added that the “desire of the toilers of the Jewish autonomous region” to establish the orphanages would be fulfilled.
