Stanislaw Steiger, who was arrested in Lemberg for throwing a gas bomb at president Wojciechowski, graduated from the Vienna University last February when he returned to Poland. Steiger was never active in the Zionist Movement and it is known that he was formerly an adherent of Ruthanian Independence. It is possible, therefore, that his act was prompted by his Ruthanian sympathies.
Another version current here is that Steiger intended to throw the harmless bomb at the president as a demonstration of resentment against the mistreatment of the Jewish academic youth in Poland who are compelled to go abroad to obtain an education on account of the practice of Numerous Clauses or the anti-Semitism of the professors in the Polish universities.
