A decision to petition the Austrian government to enact legislation prohibiting the schechita, the Jewish method of slaughtering animals, was adopted last night at a general meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The petition will be submitted to Chancellor Seipel, as part of a movement initiated by the Austrian society.
Cries of “slaughter the rabbis” were heard during the meeting.
