A vigorous international search was under way today for J. Kattan, Tel Aviv importer, to whom a shipment of cement containing ammunition was consigned on the Belgian ship Leopold II.
Police have arrested four persons on suspicion of complicity in the case.
The polive have a description of Kattan and are seeking him in Palestine and abroad but so far have been unable to trace him.
The Government issued an official communique stating that 359 of the 537 drums of cement in the shipment contained ammunition.
The ammunition shipment was accidentally discovered when one of the drums broke open while being unloaded at Jaffa, Palestine, revealing a case of cartridges.
Arab leaders utilized the incident to warn against an “armed Jewry.” Former Mayor of Jerusalem Ragheb Bey Nashishibi and the Grand Mufti appealed to the Acting High Commissioner of Palestine, Sir John Hathorn-Hall, against the Jews in connection with the incident.
