John J. McCloy, United States High Commissioner in Germany, was informed today by the State Department that he is free to carry out the execution of five German war criminals sentenced to death for ordering mass-annihilation of Jews and other victims of the Nazi regime.
The State Department held up the executions while defense attorneys appealed to the United States Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court refused to consider the appeals and a Federal court here yesterday issued a final order dismissing the petitions. Two other war criminals sentenced to death with the five are under the jurisdiction of the Defense Department.
