Action will which facilitate the rescue of a greater number of refugees from Southern France who have found temporary shelter in Spain and Portugal has been taken by the Visa Division of the Department of State, according to official information received here today by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society.
The Visa Division has decided to open for reconsideration the cases of applicants for U.S. immigration visas in which advisory approval was previously denied. The cases of these persons will be reopened immediately without waiting for the six-month period required by the regulations of the State Department, provided it is shown that the applicants are now residing in Portugal or Spain.
The Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society has informed its branches throughout the country to contact the American sponsors of such persons with a view to presenting evidence of their relatives’ present residence in Spain or Portugal in order to enable the reconsideration of their cases.
