The United States has not “spurned” a Swiss offer of $11,700,000 to be derived from the liquidation of German assets in Switzerland for use in the resettlement of displaced persons, the State Department said today. “The United States has not spurned the Swiss offer but has it under consideration along with consideration by France and the United Kingdom,” a Department spokesman said.
The reported U.S. refusal to accept the Swiss offer of funds was reported in a story from Geneva, appearing in the New York press this morning. The refusal was said to be based on U.S. reluctance to discuss use of any part of such funds apart from the general question of the disposition of German assets in Switzerland.
