Secretary of State John Foster Dulles was urged today by the American Zionists to call upon Egypt to renounce the anti-Israel blockade of the Suez Canal “a” important incident of agreement between the United Kingdom and Egypt, as well as a first step towards reconciliation between Egypt and Israel. “

In a letter sent to Secretary Dulles on behalf of the American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs, Louis Lipsky, chairman, said that since the U.S. Government had taken an important role in advancing the proposed Anglo-Egyptian agreement on the Suez Canal, “we are entitled to urge that the Egyptians terminate the blockade which has been condemned by the United Nations Security Council.”

Failure by the State Department to urge Egypt to abandon the blockade against Israel “is bound to be interpreted as an intimation of indifference that would encourage the Egyptian Government to believe that it may persist in its present course without challenge,” Mr. Lipsky pointed out in his letter. “Such an impression,” he added, “would be most unfortunate, It would embolden those elements in the Egyptian Government who do not regard peace between Israel and Egypt as desirable. “
