Two cases have been brought to the attention of the Government by the Vaad Leumi, showing how the rights of Hebrew as one of the three official languages of the country have not been observed.
The first was that the person appointed by the District Officer at Nablus to collect fees at the entrance to the Sebastieh excavations issued tickets in English and Arabic only. The second that post office signboards in different parts of the country have switched the order of precedence in which the languages had been inscribed.
The Government has replied that, in the first case, the lack of Hebrew on the admission tickets will be remedied when the present stock is exhausted.
As regards the second case, this arose through a mistake and only a limited number of signboards were affected. The accepted order of preference is English, Arabic and Hebrew.
