What Jewish Centers can do for unemployment in dealing with policies of membership fees, scholarship, securing jobs and the like is one of the topics slated for discussion at the 17th annual convention of the New York State Federation of Y.M.H.A.’s, Y.W.H.A.’s and kindred organizations which opens here Saturday night and continues until Monday, September 3 to 5.
The convention will open with an informal reception Saturday night for the delegates from 14 cities, outside of the metropolitan district of the state.
Those who will take part in the symposiums on various questions include: Supreme Court Justice Samuel J. Harris of Buffalo; Mrs. Irving Hamburger, Albany; George Bacharach, Gloversville; George M. Hyman, Syracuse; Assemblyman Haskell H. Marks, Rochester.
Assemblyman Marks, who is ending his tenth term as President of the State Federation, will lead a discussion on “Lay Leadership” Monday in which the presidents of the various organizations affiliated with the Federation and members of the Executive Council will take part. The annual message of the president will be delivered at Sunday afternoon’s session.
A meeting of the Executive Council and the professional body of executive directors will open the convention proper Sunday morning. Following greetings from Mayor Earl Stickney of Glens Falls and other civic leaders, reports will be submittd by the treasurer, Leon Brounstein of Syracuse, and the heads of departments of the State Federation.
