Nathan Friedman-Yellin, commander of the Stern Group, was today captured in Haifa. Arrested with him was one of his lieutenants, Matatiahu Shulevitz, who escaped from prison during the British Administration.
Both men were found in possession of forged Israeli Army documents. Police, who traced Friedman-Yallin from Tel Aviv to Haifa, found six different hideouts he used in the Israeli capital. Combined police and Army units with armored cars are still hunting for other Sternist leaders, including Dr. Israel Soheib second-in-command.
Meanwhile, Sternists still at large today sent leaflets to all foreign consulates and the press warning that they would not surrender Jerusalem nor recognize U.N. rule. They threatened to fight U.N. rule just as they did the British regime.
