Sen, Richard Stone (D, Fla.) said here last night that he would ask for a reassessment by the United States of all aspects of its financial support for the United Nations if the General Assembly adopts the resolution passed by its Third Committee last week equating Zionism with racism and racial discrimination. Stone said he was holding in reserve an amendment to that effect which he would seek to append to the joint Senate-House resolution due to be introduced this afternoon, condemning the UN anti-Zionist resolution.
Stone, one of the prime movers behind the joint resolution, addressed 500 delegates attending the 50th jubilee anniversary convention of the American Mizrachi Women at the Statler-Hilton Hotel. He asserted that sentiment in the Senate that the U.S. should drastically revise its relations with the UN is increasing and “we will not tolerate paying the lion’s share of financial support to a biased, prejudiced organization.”
Stone and Sens. Jacob K. Javits (R.NY) and Abraham Ribicoff (D. Conn.) were awarded the American Mizrachi Women’s “Bicentennial Public Service Award.” Mrs. Sarah Shane, of Baltimore, a third generation member of the American Mizrachi Women, was elected president of the organization, succeeding Mrs. Evelyn Schreiber.
