Controversy marked the first session of the Federation of Prussian Jewish Communities which opened here on Sunday.
The controversy developed between the representatives of the Zionists and the Conservatives, and the Liberals, The Zionists and the Conservatives demanded the resignation, of the chairman, Dr. Sonnenfeld, a Liberal, who, it was alleged, has written to the Prussian Minister of the Interior, asking him not to submit questions affecting the elections in Jewish communities to the decision of the municipal councillor, Herman Badt, a Zionist, who was recently appointed to that post. It was charged that this communication to the Ministry was an act tending to lower the esteem of a Jewish official in the eyes of non-Jews.
The question was put to a vote. Fifty-seven voted for Sonnenfeld and 48 against him. The opposition leaders resigned from the praesidium.
During the general debate, Mr. Badt made the charge of the existence of “Jewish anti-Semitism”. Only Jews, he said, protested against his nomination.
