Another blow was struck at Jewish artists by the Reich Chamber of Culture, which today forbade a number of prominent Jewish painters as well as a few non-Jews suspected of being “non-Aryans” to practice their art on the ground that they do not belong to the Chamber. Of course “non-Aryans” are forbidden to belong to the Chamber of Culture.
The order vitally affects a number of the most prominent artists in Germany, whose names cannot be published owing to the danger in which it would place them. They have even been forbidden to sell their works abroad.
LIEBERMANN EXEMPT
Only May Liebermann, eighty-seven-year-old dean of German Impressionist painters, was exempted from the order.
In Franconia, Streicher, in a speech before a congress of leaders of industry and commerce, declared it is highly important to create an administration in government and industry completely free of Jewish influence. Tolerance of Jews is an indication of slavery to international Jewish finance, he asserted.
“Jewry,” Streicher said “polluted German blood for centuries until National Socialism ended slavery to the Jews. “
