A postmen’s strike spread throughout most of Israel on its third day today, crippling service and forcing Israelis to pick up their mail at special stations.
The mail piled up at main offices, affecting normal operations and halting deliveries. Postal authorities announced yesterday that mail would be distributed at designated stations. Israelis had to brave severe rain and hail to pick up their mail today.
Postal officials said they were trying to find temporary substitute means for delivering the mail and suggested the possible use of soldiers for that purpose.
