Employes of the Israel Electric Corp. and postal and communications technicians went on a 24 hour “warning strike” today to press demands for higher wages. As a result, most radio and television programs went off the air, except for the hourly news bulletins, and no telephone or telex lines were being installed or repaired.
The latest walk-out coincided with new turmoil in the four month-old doctors’ strike. The united front of doctors employed at government hospitals and those who work for Kupat Holim, the Histadrut sick fund, seemed to be crumbling. The 2, 700 sick-fund doctors were reported to be preparing to return to normal work schedules within a few days. But the hospital physicians, who comprise about two-thirds of the strikers, intend to continue the strike.
