A group of 35 top Jewish community leaders from all parts of the country will leave tomorrow for Europe and Israel on a study mission with the aim of bringing back to the American Jewish community a report of the total picture in Israel from the standpoint of the stewardship of the United Jewish Appeal. The official report of the mission will be rendered at the annual national UJA conference in December at which plans for the 1955 campaign will be made.
Heading the group, which is flying via El Al Israel Airlines, is Edward M. M. Warburg, general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, and Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, executive vice-chairman. The Mission is expected to assess the results and the effectiveness of the funds made available through the UJA and to gain a basic understanding of the job that lies ahead of the American Jewish community in mobilizing voluntary financial aid for Israel in the coming year.
The members of the mission will make their first stop in Paris where they will attend a conference of country directors of the Joint Distribution Committee who are charged with responsibility for JDC operations in 21 countries. The directors will report on their activities and plans in the countries where they operate.
(A cable from Paris to the JTA reported today that U. S. Ambassador to France, C. Douglas Dillon, will be the guest speaker at the JDC conference. Reports from 21 countries in Europe, North Africa, Asia and South America will be made at the conference which will be held in the UNESCO building.)
