That one of the leading theatrical managers in England, Joseph Leopold Sacks, who produced many plays, some of which scored great success, is unable to read and write, was disclosed during his examination in bankruptey proceedings here today.
Sacks, who for some time was manager for Sir Harry Lauder, was born in Russia in 1881, emigrated to South Africa at the age of nine, became a circus clown, and started his career as theatrical manager at the age of nineteen.
