Summer time ends in Israel at midnight (local time) next Saturday, when clocks will be put back one hour. Israeli time will then again be two hours in advance of GMT and seven hours in advance of New York standard time.
Summer time was observed in Israel for just over three months after Interior Minister Yosef Burg was finally forced to give way to popular demand and advance clocks by an hour “on an experimental basis.”
He and observant Jews complained that the move would make life more difficult for religious Jews wishing to pray at regular solar times. A special committee is to examine the financial savings made by the reduction in electricity consumption following the later sunset hours.
