Charging that the present Palestine situation “is due solely to the policies of two great powers–Great Britain and the United States,” former Under-Secretary of State Summer Welles told a dinner meeting of the American Jewish Congress tendered in his honor tonight that the government of the United States should “face the facts” and return to the “realism of the original U.N. Partition resolution of Nov. 29, 1947.”
Scoring efforts “still further to reduce the territory which the leaders of the people of Israel have so rightly declared to be an irreducible minimum,” Mr. Welles asserted that the Nov. 29th resolution of the General Assembly “remains unchallenged as the sole authoritative declaration of the will of the U.N.”
Mr. Welles was presented a citation “in recognition of his statesmanship and understanding, inspiringly devoted to the services of his country and in gratitude for his courageous championing of the cause of Israel among the nations of the world.
