Dr. Israel Goldstein, treasurer of the Jewish Agency, speaking at opening ceremonies for the new settlement, Peduim, located “some-Where in Western Galilee,” told the settlers today that the “fact that your settle-sent is to be built on the principle of private agriculture, lends variety to Israel’s agricultural economy and demonstrates the freedom of choice which is essential to every democratic commonwealth and it is therefore to be heartily welcomed.”
The colony, located on 4,000 dunams of Jewish National Fund land situated along the sea, is made up chiefly of settlers who reached Israel from various Nazi death camps in Europe. The settlement was sponsored by the Agency’s sub-department for private colonization.
