Several hundred swallows who remained in Europe past the warm season arrived in Israel yesterday, but not on their own. They were flown in by Lufthansa as part of an International effort to save the birds who had been dying due to the early onset of cold weather in Europe. After being liberated at Ben Gurion Airport the swallows circled around the airfield then headed southwards to the Negev.
