The difficulties now facing refugees from Nazi-held or Nazi-controlled countries in Switzerland were discussed today in the Swiss Federal Council. Easing of regulations for certain categories of refugees, in order to allow them to live outside the labor camps in which they are being held, was proposed.
It was reported in the course of the discussion that the refugees in the labor camps are all assigned to constructing public works. They receive the same rations as Swiss citizens, but are not allowed to receive rationed food as gifts. Refugees are generally prohibited from engaging in political activities or practicing journalism. Only in rare cases are they permitted to accept employment.
