The Swiss Government has decided to permit the shipment of arms to Israel and the Arab states so far as their production is already authorized by Swiss Government authorities, it was reported here today.
The government decided November 8 to grant no new licenses for the export of Swiss arms to the Middle East. The present decision, it was explained, was taken “to avoid breaches of contract” and meant that arms exports under existing contracts could continue for the time being. It is believed that Israel and the Arabs ordered mainly field artillery pieces and automatic weapons.
