The Swiss Union of Jewish Communities today issued a statement describing as “baseless” the charge that Dr. Joseph Lowenherz, former president of the Vienna Jewish Community, had collaborated with the Nazis during the occupation.
The statement was based on an investigation in Austria by Alfred Weishut, a representative of the World Jewish Congress. Dr. Lowenherz, who is now in Zurich, was president of the Vienna Jewish community from 1937 until he fled Austria last Spring when Red Army troops started moving into the city.
