Sydney D. Einfeld, president of the Australian Jewish Welfare Societies and, for years, a leader in many other Jewish causes, was elected to Parliament in a by-election in Bondi. He had been endorsed for his candidacy by the Labor Party.
Mr. Einfeld will assume in Parliament the seat vacated by Abram Landa, also a Jew, who resigned his place to become Agent General in the Liberal Government of New South Wales. A member of the Labor Party for 30 years, Mr. Einfeld, who defeated Liberal, Independent and Democratic Labor Party nominees in the by-election, is also a member of the executive of the World Jewish Congress and a member of the board of directors of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
