Rabbi Jacob Philip Rudin, president of the Synagogue Council of America, said today that “the only meaningful response” to the legitimate demands of the Poor Peoples March was the adoption of legislation to implement the report of the President’s National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders (the Kerner report). He pointed out that the Synagogue Council of America had endorsed the report and had urged its implementation even if that meant imposition of additional taxes.
Rabbi Rudin was one of the delegation headed by Rev. Ralph D. Abernathy, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which visited Cabinet members and other Government officials In Washington yesterday to present the Poor People’s Campaign demands.
