Synagogues throughout the United States will honor the Joint Distribution Committee, which is entering its thirtieth year of overseas rescue, relief and rehabilitation, by observing Saturday, December 2, as “J.D.C. Sabbath.” The observance was announced today by the Synagogue Council of America through its president, Rabbi Herbert Goldstein.
Member congregations of the Synagogue Council, comprised of Orthodox, Conservative and Reform congregations, will hear sermons reviewing the accomplishments of the J.D.C. in its three decades of service to Jewry, and rabbis will survey the work which the J.D.C. will have to do in the post-war years.
