The Jewish community in the town of Marktredwitz, in the American zone of Germany, protested today to A.M.G. and Bavarian Government officials against the desecration of its synagogue by vandals Monday night, Reuters reported.
The synagogue’s doors were reported by the police to have been smashed and the interior of the house of worship was strewn with prayer books. The Holy Ark was also smashed by the vandals, the police reported.
The Marktredwitz City Council, which was hurriedly convened following the Jewish community’s protest, issued a statement condemning the “barbaric desecration of the religious site.”
