The Hebrew Association of Millville, some 30 miles west of here, has received a $2,200 bequest from the estate of the late H. A. Dix, who died last year in a Battle Creek, Mich., sanitarium.
Joseph Rosen, president of the Association, announced the money will be used to pay off the final mortgage against the Beth Hillel Synagogue.
Dix came to Millville penniless shortly after arriving in America, opened a dry goods store, became a manufacturer of women’s garments and moved to New York in 1907. He gave the first $10,000 toward the erection of the Millville Hospital.
