Syrian positions opened mortar fire this morning at Israeli tractors near the border. A cease-fire arranged by United Nations observers was ignored by the Syrians, who resumed shooting.
Israeli units returned the fire on the second attack, after which the shooting ended. Israeli tractors continued their ploughing despite the gunfire from Syrian positions and finished their work in the afternoon. One Israeli tractor driver was wounded, and a van was damaged. A Syrian tank was seen burning. Israel filed a complaint with the UN Syrian-Israeli Mixed Armistice Commission.
