Syrian President Hafez Assad said he would not make any territorial concessions to Israel. In a speech commemorating the 53rd anniversary of his country’s armed forces, Assad also said Syria would not make peace without a complete return of the Golan Heights. Talks between Syria and Israel have been suspended since 1996.
