Small paper swastikas have been affixed to the nameplates by Jewish doctors and other professionals here, apparently to distinguish them from “Aryan” practitioners.

The “identification tags” have made their appearance despite guarantees given under the League of Nations that minority groups in the Saar would not be molested for a year.

STORES HOLDING SALES

Almost every Jewish store in the Saar is now announcing a special sale of its goods in view of the fact that, with every passing day, it becomes increasingly clear that the Jews will not be tolerated in the Saar after March 1, when the territory will be officially handed over to Germany by the League of Nations.

It has not as yet been established whether the German government will permit the Jews to take out their money after March 1, when the Nazis assume administration of the Saar. In the meantime Jewish business men are liquidating their firms, selling out their goods for ridiculous prices, in order that they may transfer the cash abroad before it is too late to do so.
